Christmas in Action

Christmas in Action is a nationally known local ministry of repairing the private homes of the elderly and disabled in our community. The last Saturday in April is the official Christmas in Action workday, when volunteers from the churches join together with local civic organizations to work on a selected project. Past services rendered have included roofing; painting, window repairs, carpentry and yard clean up. A deacon oversees FPC's project each year.

Opportunity: Volunteers with skills to do work listed above are always needed. Financial contributions to aid in purchasing of materials are most welcome.

Habitat for Humanity

Habitat for Humanity provides affordable housing to lower income families. The homes may be newly built or remodeled structures. The owner-occupants purchase the house, but pay no interest on the principal amount of the home cost. In addition, the owner-occupants must provide at least 500 hours of work on their home or other "habitat" homes.

Opportunity: Volunteers are needed to help in the construction of Habitat homes. The Deacons sponsor work days every Fall during the Building on Faith work project.

Midland Fair Havens Inc.

Midland Fair Havens is an ecumenical nonprofit organization committed to creating transitional housing for homeless women and their children to enable them to become self sufficient and self-supporting.

Opportunity: For people to serve on care teams offering guidance to Midland Fair Haven's residents.

L.O.O.P.S.

Each year at Christmas, FPC hosts an Angel Tree party for children of inmates. The party is coordinated with a local organization, LOOPS (Loved Ones of Prisoners).

Opportunity: Donations of gifts and/or money are needed. People are also needed to help out with the party.

Culver Detention Center Bible Study

Every Thursday evening bible studies are held at the Culver Youth Detention Facility offering the young inmates an opportunity to hear the gospel(and enjoy homemade chocolate chip cookies.)

Opportunity: Bible Study leaders are needed every week.
