FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHILD DEVELOPMENT CENTER

The Child Development Center is a ministry of First Presbyterian Church and is committed to assisting children as they grow and develop as Jesus did: Luke 2:52 "....in wisdom, in stature, and in favor with God and man" - intellectually, physically, spiritually, socially, and emotionally.

Programs include Children's Day Out for infants through five-year-olds and preschool for three and four-year-olds.

Children's Day Out

The Children's Day Out Program operates on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00 A.M. until 2:00 P.M. with the option of leaving children until 4:00 P.M.  Extended day classes are available from 12:00 until 2:00 or 4:00 P.M. for children who attend First Presbyterian Preschool.

The Children's Day Out program provides the child with an atmosphere of Christian love which fosters creative play and exploration of the child's world. A program of care and development is planned to meet the needs of each age level. A learning centers approach is used to provide meaningful experiences and to emphasize unit themes. The children are exposed to Bible stories and Bible verses, and three- and four-year-olds attend weekly chapel.

Each school day a music teacher visits all age levels, including infants and toddlers. Spanish is provided weekly for four-year-olds, and begins for three-year-olds in January of the school year. Guests are invited to share resources with the children about once a month, and field trips are planned for three- and four-year-olds.

Preschool
The Preschool Program offers classes on Tuesday/Thursday and Tuesday/Thursday/Friday. Classes are held from 9:00 A.M. until 12:00 P.M. The children have the option to bring their lunches on Tuesdays and Thursdays and stay until 2:00 or 4:00 P.M. in the Children's Day Out Program.

The Preschool Program encourages children to discover and to learn at their own pace in a learning center approach. Units are prepared for children so that learning is sequential and based on their needs. We provide learning experiences in the form of creating, of drama, and of guided play. Music is offered to each class once a week and Spanish is offered once a week for four-year-old children and second semester for our three-year-old students. The stories of Jesus and our Biblical fathers and mothers are experienced in children's chapel and in class in word and in song.
